Type Shogun

Type Shogun is a colorful educational typing adventure where keyboard practice becomes a battle to defend the Keyboard Kingdom.

Learn proper typing technique from the very beginning. Letters, numbers, words, symbols, and passages move across the screen. Type them before they reach your Shogun. Correct typing triggers sword attacks, while later challenges test your speed, accuracy, and focus.

Build keyboard confidence through play

Type Shogun helps learners develop real keyboard skills on an adventure across rocky mountains, through icy caves, and into a world of lava and volcanoes! Explore 18 campaign levels with epic music and progressive challenges that help keep players engaged and motivated to improve as they fight to save the Keyboard Kingdom.

Save the Keyboard Kingdom

Begin with a guided Tutorial, then progress through campaign battles that introduce new typing challenges step by step. Practice letters, capitalization, numbers, punctuation, symbols, words, and sentences on your quest to the Dark Shogun's castle.

Learn with your eyes on the screen

A unique keyboard guide overlay shows the key to press, while transparent finger overlays help players see which finger should reach each letter, number, or symbol. These visual learning tools help new typists build correct habits early by reinforcing home-row technique and finger-to-key memory as they play.

With both the key and its intended finger visible on the screen, learners can follow the guidance without constantly looking down at their physical keyboards. It helps them practice finding keys by touch while keeping their attention on the adventure.

Parents and teachers can see the learning happen. As new typists follow the on-screen keyboard and transparent finger overlays, they are encouraged to press each key with the intended finger instead of hunting and pecking. From the first tutorial lesson, Type Shogun helps build the muscle memory behind proper home-row technique.

Keep the guides on while learning, or turn them off when you're ready to practice independently.

For new and experienced typists

Type Shogun is perfect for children and adults. Guided typing help, adjustable challenge settings, Sandbox practice, and WPM tests give beginners room to learn while giving stronger typists ways to practice speed, accuracy, and consistency.

A natural fit for homeschool learning

Bring a typing adventure to your homeschool day. Follow the campaign's guided lessons, revisit a skill that needs extra practice, or adjust Sandbox settings to match your learner's pace.

In WPM Mode, use Custom Text to practice with vocabulary lists, poems, or reading passages from your other lessons. Make keyboard practice part of your homeschool routine with material that connects to what your learner is studying.

Teachers can also use the guided lessons, customizable practice, and their own lesson material to support typing instruction in the classroom.

Practice your way

Sandbox Mode lets you customize typing practice with adjustable speed, spawn timing, target types, word lengths, lives, FREEZE ability, and challenge settings. Make practice calmer, faster, simpler, or more intense depending on what you want to train.

Short Words Practice and Capitalized Words Practice offer focused exercises with unlimited lives and forgiving input. Session feedback shows accuracy, completed and missed targets, and suggestions for keys to practice next.

Test your speed

WPM Mode includes timed typing tests, generated word streams, poems, paragraphs, custom text practice, saved seeds, and local records for repeatable challenges. Track your words per minute and accuracy as you type, whether you choose a timed test or practice without a time limit.

Explore a built-in library of 46 reading selections covering science, history and civics, mathematics, poetry, and essays. Practice with a favorite passage, discover something new as you type, or bring your own text and work toward your next personal best.
